A Closer Look | Research Jacket
The Research Jacket is An Irrational Element’s effort to create a piece of clothing inspired by the plastic number formula. Below an insight into some of the measurements and calculations that define the Research Jacket.
The design parameters for the Research Jacket are as follows and are a loose interpretation of the Bossche School’s use of the plastic number.
Plastic number increment / reduction is defined as * or / by 1.3247. A non-specific deviation has been allowed to define final measurements. Design is based on size medium.
78 centimeters is the largest number in the Research Jacket’s measurements and can be found in the measurement of the back length. Dividing 78 by 1.3247 results in 59 (rounded), this number can be found in the body and body hem width. A derivative of 59 is used for the sleeve length measuring at 61cm (deviation of less than 4%). By dividing further we’ll reach 25,5, a measurement implemented as the distance between the detachable front pocket and the top of the jacket.
Fluctuating between precise use of calculations and deviating resulted in the Research Jacket. Throughout the jacket you’ll find more results of plastic number infused in its design.
As design evolves over time An Irrational Element will continue to explore and research through items such as the Research Jacket.
