Household Materials | Brand Labels
In Household Materials An Irrational Element features materials that are inextricably connected to the An Irrational Element story. Ranging from fabrics to utilities that are used during the process of creation. This installment focuses on the new and future brand labels used for An Irrational Element garments.
From Collection 001 the An Irrational Element items have always featured hand stamped brand & care labels (there might have been a few exceptions). The reason for the hand stamped labels originated from idea of importance that An Irrational Element items have a memento that have been physically created by me. It would mean that the items have a part of my actual work of hand, a physical footprint if you will. Although the labels are used for the apparel & goods lines of An Irrational Element and not the footwear line it does mean that most items own this labeled trait.
The initial labels were stamped per letter and after a few seasons I added a stamp with general information so I only had to stamp the size, collection number, country of origin & material composition per letter. This process has now evolved into a woven label featuring the general information where the size, collection number, country of origin & material composition need to be filled in by hand writing.
The current neck label had an additional illustrated label added in Collection 014, the ‘swan’ label. This illustration was made by my grandmother who had the swan illustration printed on paper for her to use as a personalized ‘Ex Libris’ (more about this in the ‘Swaan Scarf’ journal post). I believe that the illustration represents An Irrational Element’s regard for nature, craft & personal bibelots.
The most recent additional of personal bibelots starts from Collection 016 | Spring & Summer 2025. Starting from this season An Irrational Element items will have the chance to have the ‘Louis’ labels sewn into them instead of the ‘Swan’ label. The Louis labels will be sent to An Irrational Element’s manufacturing partners and will be randomly placed into garments with no arbitration from my part.
