The name 'An Irrational Element' derives from a passage written by Karl Popper in his book 'Logic of  Scientific Discovery', stating that every new discovery contains an irrational element. This thought has become the ethos for An Irrational Element and is the reason why I approach creators to work with me. The core motivation for approaching others to work with me is to explore the proces and outcome of blended disciplines, styles and even personalities.

For the second project I worked together with Tim & Meena from window135. Stumbling upon their space, which they describe as a place that “Shows work in progress, changes weekly”. What triggered me to approach them was their attitude towards change by showcasing a wide variety of works in their window.

Since I do not consider An Irrational Element pieces as art, I proposed Tim & Meena to look at the trouser and to interpret it in their own way. Their explanation follows:

When we put clothes in window135 it is not on the figure, there are stands and tripods that are used and usually three forms. It is common that they are not recognized as 'clothes' but as folded cloth. This has been a thread that has run through the window for a few years, Tim has painted folded cloth, the clothes are usually made with the fall of the cloth in mind.

Similarly, I have wanted to make a bag where a big knot is the focus, using the navy wool suiting in relation to the AIE wool trousers, padded...was my first reaction.

In Deptford market I found the nylon stripe, which had a previous life as a blind and couldn't be more of a contrast to the wool suiting; luminous, in colour & texture, it has a structure to it. I was looking for something to present the trousers as if a gift, of journey: the subtlety of the trousers in relation to the all weather utilitarian nature of the knotted sack.

In the window the cream cotton bag filled with clothes of a similar colour becomes a silhouette, as with the blue. ...the red presents the AIE trousers.”
